Where can I buy a silk screen printing kit or even just the screen?? would i be able to purchase one at or do I have to order one specially? and.... Approximatley how much do u think a silk screen kit would cost???

Does anyone know where to buy a good startup kit for screen printing for under $300? I am looking for a startup kit for a first time screen printer who has already started their own t shirt company but would like to produce them too. I already know about screensupplies.com but their shipping is way too expensive to be shipped to me in Hawaii. I would also like to spend 300 dollars or less.

speedball screen-printing kit? i have a speedball screen-printing kit, this will be my first time trying to screen print something, but i was wondering how long i put the screen in the sun for to burn the emulsion? on the directions it tells you the time for different lamp lights but i dont have a lamp. please help

J.C. replied: "Buy a lamp at Home Depot ($4.97) and remove the protective glass (which filters the ultraviolet rays). When I first started screen printing, I tried to use the sun to burn my screens, and there were too many variables that I couldn't control (passing clouds and the amount of time out in the sun). I use a UV lamp 16 inches above the unexposed screen for 12-16 minutes, although a higher-power lamp could get your exposure time down to 5 minutes or so. Remember to place something dark (towel or tablecloth) underneath the screen to limit the scatter of the UV light. If you live in a place with strong, consistent sunlight, I'd suggest 10 minutes of exposure time."

Which is a better screen printing kit? I know Speedball is a good brand, so I wanted to start screen printing with a kit from them, and I found two on ebay: I have no clue which one to choose. I really want the best option for a beginner who wants nice results. The kits don't seem all that different, and the seller isn't giving me a straight answer. I want to screen print on paper, wood, fabric, etc. Do either of these kits have the ability to screen print on dark fabrics? Do they contain everything I need to screen print, so I don't have to go out and buy more stuff? Thanks in advance!

jalford12 replied: "They've both got everything you will need to learn the techniques. I would go for the cheaper one, see if you get on with screen printing, it takes a while to get good results, a fair amount of practice, a lot of wasted ink and paper :-) They both have the photo emulsion and sensitiser - that's the fun stuff!"

Vince M replied: "You will ALWAYS have to buy more "stuff." The ink included with most kits will not be enough for more than a very few prints, and, may not come in the colors you want. You mentioned printing on fabrics. THOSE have to be done with specially formulated FABRIC acrylics if you want a quality print that will survive laundering. Plus the cost of shirts, or whatever fabrics, on which you will be printing. You will need shirt forms, clothes pins, drying racks and other parephrenalia, depending on how much and what kind of printing you want to do. I suggest going with the name brand kit, to get started. Speedball has been in busines since, at least, the 1960s. The kit should have enough to get you started on learning the techniques of screening, registering multiple color screens and so on. Once you get started, you will learn, more exactly, what else you need. By the way. Fabric acrylic inks should be mixed so that they apply in an opaque layer. In other words, light color inks should print fine on dark fabrics. But, it takes practice, and a little trial and error to learn how to mix the pigments."

Kids Silk Screen Printing Kit? Seen on TV? I am looking for info about something my daughter saw on a commercial on I believe it was Nickelodeon. Anyway it sounds like it was for some type of kids silk screen printing type kit. I've looked online on all the "as seen on TV" type stores but haven't come across this yet. The best thing I could find was a kit that was the brand Alex being sold on Amazon. I'm not sure if this is the same thing or not though. I was hoping maybe someone had seen the commercial and could tell me what the product is called or anything about it? Oh and I'm putting my question in this category because I was hoping maybe some other parents with kids my age may have seen this commercial!

I just came across that Alex one, but that one isn't the same...My DD also thought it looked good, but for the life of me, I can't think what the brand was! Does anyone know of a cheap website for Screen Printing machines or a beginner kit? Or if you think you or a friend is selling one for cheap?

Tim D replied: "Look in the yellow pages around your area for used machine or equipment sales. I have a press for sale but it is not for printing textiles. And I don't know what your definition of cheap is. Good luck"

Good & afordable screen prinitng kit? Can someone tell me where to buy a good screen printing kit?with a 4 color station,flash dryer,and a cheap exposure light?

Tim D replied: "You could go to companies like Nazdar Source One or Midwest Sign & Screen Printing Suppy Company. Both will have sales persons that can give you quotes for all your equipment needs. I would, if I were you, source the equipment you want first. Go to this is the home page for Screen Printing and Sign of the Times magazines. There you will find links to manufactures. Find the equipment you would like to see, get ballpark prices on then find your local source. The sales people may also be able to find you used equipment some of their bigger customers are trying to sell. Always veiw this equipment running before committing. If you have the knowledge of what you are looking for first the sales persons will take you more serious and in return be more responsive. Good Luck do your home work and see all equipment new and used in person. Suprises always cost money."
